Capitalize names of languages, nationalities, ethnicities, political parties, religions and religious denominations. Do not capitalize white or black as designation of race.

Although he has been a Republican for many years, he recently switched parties and became a registered Democrat.
Do not capitalize references to general religious observances unless they are formed as a proper noun.
