Commas and Geographic Names and Addresses
Use two commas to set off the name of a state, a country or equivalent when it directly follows the name of a city or county.
She moved to the area from San Francisco, California, just 6 months ago.
She is leaving for a cruise to Baja, Mexico, in just 2 weeks.
When writing a complete address as part of a sentence, use a comma to separate the elements of the address; i.e., street address, secondary address (suite, apartment number, etc.), city, state. Do not use a comma between the state and the ZIPÂ code. Use a comma to separate the ZIP code from the remainder of the sentence that follows it.
She requested that the records be sent to her home address at 555 Boulevard, #308, Salt Lake City, UT 84014, once they are available.
In correspondence or other instances where a complete address is displayed in block style, use the full block format.
