Nouns that are false singulars
There are some plural nous that are used so frequently in the singular that they are often paired with a singular verb.
The agenda has been set for our next meeting.
Frequently treated erroneously in this way are the plurals bacteria, criteria, phenomena and memoranda. However, the distinction should be retained; when the singular is intended, use bacterium, criterion, phenomenon and memorandum.
The event was a spectacular phenomenon.

The event was a spectacular phenomena.
The phenomena of physiology is fascinating.
NOT
The phenomena of physiology are fascinating.
